Wanted man arrested at Premier Inn after police smash down door during morning raid

Police have arrested a wanted man following a morning raid at the Premier Inn, in Hucknall.

Following a tip-off, officers attended the Nottingham Road hotel at about 9.40am on Saturday, October 5, before smashing down one of the bedroom doors as part of the operation.

A 32-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of robbery and criminal damage.

His arrest follows a witness appeal relating to a robbery at Top Valley Drive's Tesco store and a report of cars being damaged in Latimer Close, both in the early hours of yesterday morning (October 4).

Guests at the hotel told Nottinghamshire Live the first thing they knew of the incident was seeing the broken door.

John and Debbie Wayne arrived at the hotel after 7pm last night, having travelled from their home in Kent to to see family.

He said: “There’s a door broken inside and it is just laying down in the room. You can tell it’s been ripped out because all the wood has splintered. We didn’t get here until 7pm last night and went and had dinner and didn’t see anything.

“We are up visiting family. We got up for breakfast and saw the door but didn’t hear anything.”

The arrested man will remain in custody while police carry out enquiries.

Detective Inspector Kim Binns, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Every violent crime is treated extremely seriously by Nottinghamshire Police.

“We respond swiftly and robustly when it happens, investigate thoroughly and do everything we can to proactively reduce violence."

Hucknall resident Mark Prince said it was unusual to see police in the area outside of Friday and Saturday nights.

The 57-year-old said: “Police vans and cars were racing down the road.

“They had their sirens on, that’s why I noticed them. We do hear police in Hucknall on a Friday and Saturday night but not that early.”
