Want to get away from it all? Picturesque 660-acre island with four-bed house and its own ferry now on sale

A beautiful uninhabited island off the west coast of Scotland has gone on the market - and property agents expect significant interest from the UK and beyond.

Picturesque Inchmarnock is a hermit's haven in the Firth of Clyde, separated from the rest of civilisation by a 10-minute ferry ride from the seaside town of Rothesay.

The island also comes with a four-bed country house that sits in the middle of 660 acres of sprawling greenery.

Once home to a farming community of 41 people, the island's last permanent resident left its shores in 1986.

Since 1999, Inchmarnock has been owned by a couple who have used the island and the property as a place to escape on holiday, EdinburghLive reports.

Inchmarnock is on the market for £1.5million including a house, various outbuildings, an in-hand farm and its own bespoke ferry and private harbour.

It also has great historical interest after the remains of a local Bronze Age woman, the Queen of the Inch, were found in the 1960s.

Diane Fleming, sales agent for Strutt & Parker in Edinburgh, said: "Inchmarnock is a stunning island rich in possibility.

What is land banking

"There is already a successful farming enterprise and a lovely family home on the nearby shore of Bute but there is significant potential to build up the sportings, develop the existing residential offering and to capitalise on the various amenities offered by the island such as the native woodland, watersports and fishing.

"A Scottish island embodies the romance many people associate with the country's prime estates and farms.

"Inchmarnock is stunning with great heritage and is a peaceful and secluded haven, yet it is relatively accessible from Scotland's central belt.

"We expect significant interest from national and international buyers."
