Police have launched a murder probe following the fatal stabbing of a young man in south-west London.

Scotland Yard said officers were called to Deeside Road, Wandsworth, at 4.42pm on Friday following reports of a stabbing.

Police and London Ambulance Service attended and found a man, believed to be aged in his late teens, in a critical condition.

Paramedics battled to save him, but he died at the scene a short time later.

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said formal identification has yet to take place and the force is working notify the youth's next of kin.

A post-mortem examination will be held in due course.

No arrests have been made, the statement added.

A large cordon remains in place at the scene.

The incident took place just minutes before a fatal shooting in Plumstead.

The victim of the shooting was found with critical injuries on Hartville Road, Plumstead, just before 5pm and died at the scene a short while later.

Police are appealing for anyone with information on what happened to call them urgently on 101 quoting CAD reference 6004/14June.

Anyone with information can also call Crimestoppers anonymously via 0800 555 111.
