A female cyclist in her 20s has died after a crash with a lorry in south-west London.

Police scrambled to Wandsworth Road at around 3.12pm on Thursday after reports of a collision between a lorry and a cyclist.

Officers and paramedics attended and found the female cyclist, believed aged in her 20s, in a life-threatening condition.

"The woman sadly died at the scene a short while later," a spokesman for Scotland Yard said.

"Police are in the process of informing her next of kin."

The lorry driver stopped at the scene and is assisting officers with their enquiries, police said.

Road closures have been put in place while emergency services remain at the scene, at the junction with Silverthorne Road.

A Transport for London spokesman said: "A3036 Wandsworth Road is fully closed at Silverthorne Road following an earlier serious collision.

"It's expected to remain closed to allow for police investigation work. Expect heavier-than-usual traffic on diversion routes, including South Lambeth Road and Clapham Road."

An investigation into the crash continues.
