Wanderers fired up to beat Adelaide in ALW

Western Sydney defender Lauren Keir says her team will have plenty of fire in their belly when they attempt to snare their first win of the A-League Women season against Adelaide.

The Wanderers started their campaign with a 4-2 loss to Newcastle, and followed it up with a tight 1-0 defeat to 10-player Sydney FC last week.

Western Sydney only narrowly avoided the wooden spoon last season, and they are desperate to kick-start their current campaign with a win against Adelaide at Wanderers Football Park on Sunday.

"We want to have that positive performance at home in front of our fans and family," Keir said.

"We were so close last week.

"We are definitely going out there with a bit of fire in our belly coming off two losses. It's shown in training that we really want it, and hopefully we can put on a great performance.

"Despite the two performances that we've had, we are sticking together and keeping each other accountable for our performances.

"We're still backing each other. We know we can do more and be better."

Adelaide's unbeaten start to the season was brought to a halt last week when they lost 2-1 to the ladder-leading Western United.

The Reds went 1-0 up through Chelsie Dawber's 56th-minute strike, but Western snatched victory with stoppage-time goals to Sydney Cummings and Emma Robers.

Adelaide have lost Nanako Sasaki (ankle) and Ella Tonkin (foot) to injury for the game against the Wanderers, but Fiona Worts has been given the green light to return.
