Western Sydney's A-League Women's campaign is up and running after a battling 1-0 win over Brisbane at Moreton Daily Stadium on Sunday.
Coming into the match having scored just one goal in their four matches and without a victory, the Wanderers secured a priceless win in hot and humid conditions courtesy of youngster Bryleeh Henry's 65th-minute penalty.
The win lifts Western Sydney above the Roar and into seventh on the ladder ahead of next weekend's home clash with defending champions Melbourne Victory at Commbank Stadium.
"It's good to get the three points," Henry told Network Ten.
"Hopefully we can keep building off this.
"Hopefully that's the break we've needed over the past three games, keep building and go for finals because that's what we want."
Second-half substitute Olivia Price was the gamebreaker, coming off the bench to win the decisive penalty.
Price danced past a couple of Roar defenders before she was felled by Brazilian winger Mariel Hecher, with 18-year-old Henry stepping up to slot home the spot-kick past Roar goalkeeper Georgina Worth.
Defeat leaves Brisbane with just one win from six matches and was a deflating result following last weekend's remarkable come-from-behind result against Victory.
Midfielder Katrina Gorry was at the heart of everything for the hosts, who created 22 shots but were unable to find the back of the net.
"We've just got to be clinical in front of goal," Gorry said.
"Most of the teams don't get too many chances but they put them away when they do.
"That's kind of been the story of our season so far but we'll keep on working, we'll keep on creating chances and hopefully we'll put them away next week."
Gorry came closest for the hosts when her shot in the 34th minute was spilt onto the post by Sarah Langman before the Wanderers goalkeeper pounced on the ball before it crossed the line.
In-form Shea Connors also had a great chance just before halftime after Gorry and Hecher had combined well down the right but the American could only fire straight at Langman when unmarked in the penalty area.
Brisbane take on bottom-placed Wellington next weekend in a match Garrath McPherson's team must win.
