WandaVision viewers think there’s a rare MCU reference to X-Men’s Wolverine in episode 6

The latest episode of WandaVision featured what some fans believed to be an extremely rare Marvel Cinematic Universe reference to one of the studio’s most famous characters.

Disney Plus’ Marvel series returned for its sixth episode on Friday (12 February), and it saw the resurrected Pietro (Evan Peters) settle into the sitcom world that’s seemingly been created by his sister, Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen).

Nothing appears as it seems, though, right down to the fact that Peters appears as Pietro having played the character in the non-MCU X-Men films.

He was previously played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson in 2015 film Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Evan Peters’ ‘X-Men’ version of Pietro has shown up in the MCU’s ‘WandaVision (Marvel Studios)

His arrival has led to what some fans believe to be another X-Men reference, though, which would be particularly exciting considering the MCU is set to introduce the X-Men in future films thanks to Disney’s acquisition of Fox.

Fox is the studio that previously produced all X-Men films.

These fans think Marvel producers added a visual reference to Wolverine, the mutant played by Hugh Jackman, in WandaVision, in the form of Pietro’s hairstyle. While it is more likely this is a nod to Pietro’s appearance in the comic books, it’s easy to see why some people believe he has styled his hair in the same way Jackman’s Wolverine does.

This could even be a great way to the hammer home the fact that Peters’ version of Pietro is from the X-Men universe as he would know full well who Wolverine actually is. It’s fair to assume that Taylor-Johnson’s version wouldn’t even know he exists.

See the viewer reaction to the reference below.

Of course, many viewers believe Pietro is not actually Pietro, and think the episode heavily hints that he is actually the Marvel villain known as Nightmare. Find more details on that here.

WandaVision continues Fridays on Disney Plus.
