WandaVision’s latest revelation hints at a very dark future for Scarlet Witch in the Marvel Cinematic universe (MCU).
The latest episode of Marvel’s Disney Plus TV series was released on Friday (19 February), and finally revealed one big clue relating to the mystery of Westview.
While many have believed Wanda to be its creator since the show began, the closing moments of this outing unveiled the identity of the villain who is actually behind the show’s sitcom world.

Episode seven revealed that Wanda’s neighbour Agnes (Kathryn Hahn) is behind the Westview antics. She is revealed to be Agatha Harkness.
In the Marvel comics, Agatha is an ancient sorceress whose story intersects with that of Scarlet Witch in the “House of M” storyline, which was referenced in the very first episode.

This story sees Scarlet Witch alter the fabric of reality after suffering a mental breakdown due to losing the children she has with Vision. The children, who were conceived using magic, are taken from Wanda by a villain named Mephisto; it turns out their souls were fragments of his (many viewers believe Mephisto actually showed up in the latest episode – find out where exactly here).
In the comics, it’s Agatha who then wipes Wanda’s memory so that she has no idea she even had children. That is until years later when she finds out and goes on a rampage, creating her own world in order to bring them back.

It seems that the MCU won’t follow this storyline precisely, but what is crucial to note is that Wanda doesn’t realise what Angela did for quite some time. In fact, she ends becoming something of a protege of the sorceress’.
Together, the two resurrect Wonder Man, the character who se brainwaves helped create Vision.
Later, after Wonder Man dies while helping the Avengers, his brother, a villain named Grim Reaper, eventually vows to kill them all.
The Grim Reaper’s appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) was previously teased in the opening credits ofWandaVision’s second episode.
Whatever the outcome of the series itself, Agatha’s introduction indicates there are dark times ahead for Wanda. The scene in which she lures Wanda away from Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) may be a sign of things to come – she is well and truly under Agatha’s spell.
At one stage, Monica tells Wanda – who believes she’s the one behind the sitcom reality – not to “become the villain”, to which she responds: “What if I already am?”
It seems under Agatha’s guidance, this is exactly what she could become.
