A woman has died and a number of people were injured in a three-car crash following a police chase on the M25.
The collision happened just before 10pm on Thursday on Parklands, Waltham Abbey and involved three vehicles, police said.
The woman died at the scene.
Essex Police said in a statement: “The incident has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct as it followed a police pursuit involving one of the cars, which officers from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire road policing unit had attempted to stop on the M25."
The force has not disclosed the age of the victim, or the exact number of people injured.
The road was closed following the incident and long delays were reported into Friday morning.
Witnesses and people with dash-cam footage are asked to call the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 101.
