The club said on Twitter yesterday: "Invited guests from the Rangers and football family, as well as wider society, will gather at Glasgow Cathedral on Friday to celebrate the life of Walter Smith.

"Supporters should note this service is not open to the general public, however, it will be available free to view across club channels later on Friday."

A huge outpouring of tributes followed the news of Smith's death, with fans lining the streets outside Ibrox stadium as the cortege passed the club's home ground ahead of a private family ceremony on Wednesday, November 3.

Applause rang out as supporters mourned the loss in emotional and touching scenes.

The Broomloan and Copland gates at the stadium were also decorated with scarves and flowers, while the John Greig statue had wreaths left in Smith's honour.

Tributes have continued to pour in for Smith after his passing on October 26.

Scottish MPs led tributes to him during a debate in the House of Commons on Wednesday.
