Walter Smith leads Rangers legendary line-up as Ibrox icon to attend 150th anniversary celebration dinner

Rangers icon Walter Smith leads a legendary line up of former Ibrox managers at a star-studded dinner in Glasgow next year.

The special event forms part of the club’s 150th anniversary anniversary celebrations with Smith set to be joined by predecessor Graeme Souness, successor Dick Advocaat and Treble-winning boss Alex McLeish.

Smith’s attendance is a huge boost after the Ibrox club revealed the 73-year-old underwent surgery earlier this year.

The dinner is set to take place at the city’s DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel on Friday, March 4 next year with Steven Gerrard’s men due to host Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership the following day.

Rangers Legends Events company Five Stars Ltd. are organising the bash with tickets due to go on sale this Friday.

The company announced the dinner on their Instagram page and said: "As part of our upcoming calendar of events to celebrate the 150th anniversary of RFC we are delighted to present our Managers Evening!

"Graeme Souness, Walter Smith, Dick Advocaat, Alex McLeish and a selection of past players will make this incredibly special event one not to be missed!

"After speaking to all four managers in the past week they are as excited for this event as we are!"

Fans will hear from the quartet of gaffers on their trophy-laden spells in the Ibrox dug-out with nine-in-a-row boss Smith the most successful of all.

The former Scotland boss had two spells in charge of his boyhood heroes before stepping down in 2011 after winning his third title in a row of his second stint.

That remained the club’s last top flight league title until Gerrard delivered the Scottish Premiership trophy this season.
