Walter and Irene’s diamond day at cafe

Walter and Irene Ness toasted their 60th wedding anniversary surrounded by friends and family at Ayr’s Cafe le Monde.

The pair, who live in the town’s East Park Road, were also joined by Provost Helen Moonie for the special occasion.

Daughter Sandra said: “Mum and Dad have been regulars here for almost 10 years and there’s nowhere they’d rather celebrate the big day.”

Walter, a former teacher at Prestwick, Belmont and Auchinleck Academies, also spent time as a radio engineer at Redbrae.

He met Irene in the south-west village of Kirkcolm before the pair set up home in Ayr.

Karen Pajovic, who owns the cafe with husband  Nino, said: “Walter and Irene have become part of the family.”
