A Walt Disney employee who has a similar name to Jeffrey Epstein has been forced to fend off vile abuse on Twitter days after his namesake was found dead in his jail cell.

Jeffrey R Epstein, whose verified Twitter bio reads “Not THAT Jeffrey Epstein,” has received hundreds of messages from trolls which celebrate his death.

Epstein, the American financier accused of trafficking girls for sex, was found hanged in his jail on Sunday, days after being taken off a suicide watch.

Mr Epstein, the Walt Disney employee, has since been tagged in Twitter posts telling him to “rot in hell” and “Go to hell, child rapist”.

He has been forced to respond to the messages, to clarify that he is a different Epstein.

He responded to one post by writing: “One bad Epstein can’t spoil the whole bunch”.

He has also clarified that he is still alive, writing: "I guess I should appreciate all the RIPs, but I’m not dead. And I’m still *not* THAT Jeffrey Epstein.”

He added to another: “Hey there, Wrong Jeffrey Epstein, Still alive here.”

Mr Epstein has also received the support of his industry colleagues, including NBC’s Yvette Nicole Brown.

The Community actress wrote: “As we all process what the “suicide” of that monster means for his victims, I’d like to take another moment to remind ALL that @EpsteinJeffrey is NOT that monster.

“Please stop @ ing my friend w/vitriol. HE is still alive and is a good man. #Enough”
