Walmart is getting into restaurant delivery and now offers groceries along with your McDonald’s order

Walmart customers can now get restaurant food delivered alongside their groceries, according to a report.

The retail giant is asking some Spark delivery drivers, who bring groceries and other merchandise to customers, to also deliver some restaurant orders, according to messages sent to workers that were viewed by Business Insider.

The delivery workers would be responsible for restaurant orders coming from eateries located inside Walmart stores, such as Dunkin’ or McDonald’s.

Restaurant deliveries through Walmart Spark began May 11, according to the report.

An email sent to a Spark worker noted that restaurant orders would be included with standard purchases of Walmart products.

“You may start seeing restaurant delivery offers from participating restaurants located inside Walmart stores in your area, offering more ways to earn,” the email to workers said, according the Business Insider.

The orders “may include items like meals, sides, or drinks,” according to the message.

Walmart declined to comment to Business Insider, citing a quiet period before their next earnings report would be released on Thursday. The Independent contacted Walmart for more information.

While many Walmart locations have national chains like Dunkin’ and McDonald’s, some have regional restaurants inside. For example, California-based hot dog sellers Wienerschnitzel announced last year it would open locations inside some Walmart locations.

Walmart, which introduced the Spark delivery service in 2018, has worked to grow the service over the past few years. It focuses on same-day deliveries of groceries, electronics and other merchandise, using Walmart’s 4,600 stores to fill orders, Business Insider notes.

Meanwhile, last week, Walmart laid off or relocated some 1,000 corporate employees from its global technology and product teams, according to reports.

The decision, made to streamline its operations, was not related to AI automation.

The cuts came about a year after 1,500 employees were let go for similar reasons.
