Wally the Walrus has finally been spotted on his way back home to the arctic relaxing in Iceland.
The mammal has won the hearts of people across the globe and even made a pit stop on his journey in Cork.
As he popped up on shorelines across Ireland and the UK, hundreds of people have been flocking to get a picture of the Arctic walrus on his adventure.
Wally was first spotted in Iceland on Sunday after travelling 559 miles to get there. British ship divers saw Wally near the islands of Iceland and the marks on the walrus’s body led Sea Rescue Ireland to reveal it was definitely him.
Seal Rescue Ireland tweeted that Wally had been spotted in Iceland.
They said: “After 22 days with no confirmed sightings, we were starting to lose hope of ever seeing the young, wandering walrus again.
“It has been confirmed that this is Wally. Notice the similar scars on the front of both front flippers. We are absolutely over the moon that he’s not only still alive and well, but he is well on his way home to the Arctic.
“He was seen swimming back out to sea last night (and even managed to avoid sinking any boats while he was there).
“We are so grateful to the many members of the public who have shown support and love for this walrus by giving him a safe place to rest and gather his strength.
“Thanks to his ability to feed and rest, he has successfully made the long stretch and will hopefully reunite with his own kind again soon.”
The walrus has previously been spotted in Spain, Cornwall and the Isle of Scilly.
Boat owners were left counting the cost of the walrus damaging their vessels by using them as a resting place.
