Wallsend girl's sweet poem for key workers is sure to put a smile on your face

A seven-year-old girl has won scores of hearts by writing a special poem praising key workers during the coronavirus lockdown.

The piece, written by Amy, from Wallsend, was sent to North Tyneside Council to show her appreciation of the work being done by frontline staff during the Covid-19 crisis.

In her acrostic poem - a type of poem in which the first letters of each line spell out a word or phrase - she highlights the vital role of staff including refuse workers, social workers and postmen.

She also adds "We love you" and ends by drawing a rainbow.

Her poem was shared by the authority on its Facebook page on Tuesday and it has since been liked by dozens of people.

The council's social media officer wrote: "I thought I'd keep this little piece of loveliness, to be our last post of the day.

"An acrostic poem (yep I had to look it up too) from the delightful Amy, aged seven, from Wallsend. We love you too Amy."

One follower said: "From the heart of children comes true compassion , beautifully written."

Another added: "What lovely words from a seven year old."

Keep us safe

Even if we're two metres apart

You've got this

We love you

Our prayers are with you

Refuse workers, social workers and postmen

Key workers do many jobs

Every day you work for us

Respect for all of you

So I wrote this for you
