Wallsend Diggers 'shut down', board member Sonia Hornery announces

WALLSEND Diggers and Mezz Bar has been shut down, the suburb's state MP has claimed in what she badged as a coronavirus update.

Labor MP Sonia Hornery posted the claim through her official Facebook page on Sunday evening, saying the venue had been "shut down" on Sunday afternoon.

Ms Hornery is a director of the club's board.

She tagged the post as a COVID-19 update.

Several patrons said they were at the club when the shut down announcement was made.

Attempts to contact the club directly on Sunday night were unsuccessful, with phones ringing out.

Ms Hornery's announcement comes two weeks after Port Stephens MP Kate Washington announced to her electorate that two schools and a childcare centre were due to close after positive coronavirus cases in late July.

Those cases were later confirmed by health authorities.

Ms Hornery said she was seeking further information and "will update you when I have been briefed".
