Wallaby seen in quiet village on sunny morning

People living in a village just outside Merseyside were gobsmacked when they saw a wallaby roaming around yesterday.

One person shared a video on social media showing the wallaby roaming freely around on Guide Road in Hesketh Bank on Monday, July 18. Helen Cooney said one of her colleagues sent her the video and she didn't believe it was real at first.

She said: "It was one of our drivers that saw it and filmed it but he didn't know how to put it onto Facebook. I thought he'd sent me a fake video."

Sharing the video in a local Facebook group meant the owner was quickly in touch, with him commenting on the video: "Back home now. Thanks to everyone who has shown concern.

"There is a weak point in the fence (obviously) which is now being fixed. Hopefully, you won’t be seeing anymore down your road! If anyone would like to meet them then send me a message."

Another person said: "Now I know we have a heat wave, but I think he’s hugely mistaken the UK for Australia."

It's not illegal to own a wallaby in the UK and they can be kept as pets. Although, the relative to the kangaroo is a shy animal.
