Wall's and Pork Farms' parent company proposes closure of bakery

The future is unclear for more than 400 workers after the food giant behind Wall's and Pork Farms confirmed it was proposing to close one of its manufacturing sites.

Nottingham-headquartered Addo Food Group says the potential closure of its site in Spalding, Lincolnshire , has come after a comprehensive business review and manufacturing of its products, including sausage rolls, will be transferred to other bakeries.

The factory in Lincolnshire employs 405 employees, but is is not yet known whether these roles will be transferred, Nottinghamshire Live reports .

Making the announcement, Addo CEO Deborah Bolton said: "We fully understand the disappointment of this announcement for all of our employees, and we are committed to doing everything possible to support them over the coming weeks, especially those who would be directly affected.

"In order to maintain our market leading position and meet customer expectations as efficiently as possible, we need to optimise our manufacturing sites to enable a continued investment in quality, service and product and packaging innovation. This proposal will allow us to achieve this."

Addo Food Group is headquartered just off Queen's Drive, Nottingham, and was last year named the 17th biggest company in Nottinghamshire in the Nottingham Post's annual Top 200 .

Its turnover for that year was reported to be £271 million and it had more than 2,500 employees.
