Wall knocked down in Newark crash as neighbours describe hearing sirens and express concern

A wall has been knocked down in a crash in Nottinghamshire. Pictures from the scene show a wall to a property has been coned off, with boards put up on either side of the cones.

The emergency services were called to reports of a crash on Farndon Road, Newark, in the early hours of Friday, May 19. Further details about the incident remain unclear at this stage and neighbours described hearing sirens as they expressed concern over what happened.

Retired Emily Hayward, 88, said: “I saw the lights. It was about midnight as I don’t go to bed early. I saw the fire engine move away about half past 12.

“About 20 to one there was more flashing lights as I could see them out the side window.”

A retired 70 year old person, who did not wish to be named, said: “It’s always concerning when something like that happens, and late at night is surprising as well. During the day we have a lot of heavy traffic, we’re all waiting for the Southern Relief Road to come in."

Administrator Melanie MacDonald, 31, said: “I did hear sirens but I have no idea what time.” When asked if it was concerning to have something like that happen so close to home, she replied: “Yeah, we go that way all the time with the children."

A man in his 40, who did not wish to be named, said: “I didn’t know anything about it. I suppose I'm a bit far from it but I hope everyone’s OK.”

Nottinghamshire Live has contacted Nottinghamshire Police for more information about the incident.
