Walkinstown festival to feature live music, clowns, and community fun

A wonderful local festival taking place in Walkinstown this September is aiming to bring the community together for wholesome fun.

Wonderful Walkinstown takes place on Sunday, September 4 in Walkinstown Park, and is inviting the local communities to come together and celebrate local pride. The idea for the festival came from two members of the local Walkinstown ukulele group The Walkileles, Jackie and Paul Byrne.

The family fun event is supported by Dublin City Council and organised by a committee of local residents and organisations. What visitors can expect on the day is a live music stage featuring performances from local music and dance groups.

Performers will include the Walkeleles, Irish dancers, singer-songwriter Natalie Moran, contemporary choir Musically Sound, the Crumlin Orchestra and more. There will also be information stands for community organisations, sports, storytellers, clowns, face painting, super heroes and other games and activities for kids of all ages.

Some of the local community groups that Walkinstown residents will get the opportunity to meet on the day include the Men's Shed, Scouts, DSPCA and Walkinstown Greenhills Resource Centre. One of the event's organisers Siobhan Burke, who runs a community group called Make Walkinstown Great, said that she hopes to see a good dose of community spirit on the day.

"It really came out of Covid with people wanting to be together in the community," she said. She added that she hopes the event will build a strong sense of local pride and a sense of community in Walkinstown.

Updates about the festival will be posted to the Wonderful Walkinstown Festival Facebook page ahead of the event.
