Walkers has warned customers it is experiencing shortages.
The retailer assured customers it was prioritising the production of its most popular products including staples such as salt and vinegar, salted, and cheese and onion, as well as Quavers and Wotsits.
A Walkers spokesperson said in a statement: “A recent IT system upgrade has disrupted the supply of some of our products. Our sites are still making crisps and snacks, but at a reduced scale.
“We’re doing everything we can to increase production and get people’s favourites back on shelves. We’re very sorry for the inconvenience caused.”
The company said it shortages could continue for several more weeks as its factories are not likely to return to their typical production levels until the end of November.
It comes amid a wider supply crisis has rocked the UK in recent months which is being fuelled by a shortage of lorry drivers post Brexit and the Covid-19 pandemic.
In late September and early October, there were shortages at the petrol pumps and long queues on forecourts which was sparked by panic buying.
The food industry has also been hit by supply chain issues, with fast food chains such as McDonald’s pulling items from its menu due to shortages.
Meanwhile, Nando’s was forced to close 50 sites due to staffing shortages due to a shortage of poultry.
