Walkers crisp shortage as supplies hit by computer glitch

Supplies of the hugely popular snack brand Walkers have been hit by shortages. The news was confirmed by the firm who blamed its limited stock on a computer problem.

The apparent lack of supplies have mainly affected supermarkets - with shoppers spotting evidence of the shortages online. Both Asda and Tesco customers saw limited supplies of some of their favourite Walkers crisps on sale while shopping over the internet.

Reports suggest that less than a third of the firm's crisp varieties could be purchased online via Tesco because of the error. Meanwhile, shoppers were left unable to buy more than 70 Walkers snack products from Asda via the internet because of the apparent shortage.

The issue caused by the IT glitch is primarily affecting online shops. However, anecdotally, stock issues in physical supermarkets are not thought to be affected to the same degree. A Walker's spokesperson told the Sun said: "We experienced a short-term IT issue which led to the supply of our crisps and snacks being more limited than usual.

"Availability of our brands in shops remains good so crisp fans can continue to enjoy their favourites snacks.” Shoppers began noticing the apparent shortages last week.

It follows an issue earlier in 2022, when Walkers was hit by a supply problem which the firm said was also an IT issue – this time caused by an upgrade on its computer systems.
