Cody Walker claims South Sydney could be the perfect fit for Anthony Milford as the unwanted Brisbane half searches for a way to extend his NRL career.
Milford's future is at the crossroads after being told by Brisbane he wouldn't be re-signed for next year, with the five-eighth also dropped since round 12.
The 27-year-old is set to have to accept a cut-price deal wherever he heads, well below the massive $1 million deal he signed with the Broncos in 2017.
The Rabbitohs could loom as an option, with Milford having previously worked with 2022 coach Jason Demetriou.
Souths are understood to have shown some interest in the former Queensland State of Origin playmaker, with questions around their own halves next year.
Adam Reynolds is bound for Brisbane while Benji Marshall is also yet to make a call on whether he will play into a 20th season.
"It's a great signing," Walker said.
"His experience. Having a pretty easy type of role in the team (would benefit him).
"A lot of that weight will fall on my shoulders to get us around the park a little bit and allow him to play his own game.
"It would be a great signing for the club to sign a guy like Milford. He is obviously a very experienced player, he has played rep football at the highest level.
"Hopefully he does come because losing Renno is a pretty big loss in our side."
Blake Taaffe looms as the most likely option to go into the Rabbitohs halves next year, but Milford could potentially play a similar role to Marshall this season.
Walker himself is off contract at the end of next year, but said he had put talks over his own future on hold as the Rabbitohs mount their finals assault.
More immediately Souths expect to have Reynolds available to face St George Illawarra on Saturday.
The 31-year-old twinged his hamstring in last week's flogging of the Warriors, but is on track to run out in Rockhampton after completing light duties.
A win would move them level with either Melbourne or Penrith on points, with those two teams playing each other hours later on Saturday night.
"It's obviously a great opportunity for us to go to the top-two sides, but if you start thinking about that you lose focus on the game at hand," Walker said.
