Walker, Torres - Man City latest injury news and return dates ahead of festive schedule

Things are running very smoothly for Manchester City on the injury front at the moment, with just one player likely to be out on Boxing Day against Leicester.

Pep Guardiola’s side have of course strengthened their position at the top of the Premier League, having comfortably seen off Newcastle on Sunday as Chelsea and Liverpool dropped points at Wolves and Tottenham respectively.

And despite the chaos caused by the resurgence of Covid cases across the league, City have seemingly been largely unaffected, with just Kyle Walker and Ferran Torres missing at St James’ Park.

Walker’s absence shouldn’t last much longer either, meaning – barring any potential positive Covid tests before Christmas – City could have a near-clean bill of health for their Boxing Day clash with the Foxes.

Here’s how things currently stand on the injury front.

Kyle Walker

The England full-back has been left out of the last two squads against Leeds and Newcastle, with Joao Cancelo moving over to the right in his place.

Guardiola cited a ‘lack of fitness’ for Walker’s absence, although he is expected to be back in contention for the visit of Leicester.

With City getting the rare luxury of a free week ahead of the Boxing Day clash, it should hopefully provide enough time for Walker to get himself back up to fitness.

Potential return date: December 26

Ferran Torres

Torres hasn’t featured since injuring his foot wile on international duty with Spain back in October.

He has since undergone treatment, and posted an encouraging update earlier this month as he was pictured in his training gear kicking a ball at the CFA, indicating his recovery is going well.

The 21-year-old is not expected back until the New Year though, and speculation continues over a transfer to Barcelona, with Torres having told City he would be open to a move to the Camp Nou.

Potential return date: January
