Walker, Thompson, Langford OUT vs 76ers; Theis questionable

It’s become a popular refrain to hear that the best ability is availability, but for their first preseason game of their 2020-21 campaign, the Boston Celtics will have at least a few unavailable players when they tip off against the Philadelphia 76ers at 7:30 pm ET this evening.

Starting All-Star point guard Kemba Walker is still going to be out as he rehabilitates his often-balky knee with a stem cell injection and strengthening regimen, and second-year wing Romeo Langford will also miss the contest as he recovers from surgery on a torn tendon. New Boston big man Tristan Thompson will also miss the game with a hamstring strained in a workout, and fellow Celtic center Daniel Theis may well miss the game with a sore back.

On the other side of the ball, the Sixers, only small forward Terrance Ferguson is a potential scratch, listed as questionable in the league’s injury report for the contest with a left ankle sprain.

Don’t take too much from this contest either way it breaks given it’s a preseason game, but it will be interesting to see how Boston adapts to this most early appearance of the so-called “Hospital” Celtics.
