Walker Modular sales hit £75m as Hull bathroom firm taps into growth

Hull bathroom manufacturer Walker Modular continued its impressive sales growth last year as turnover passed £75m.

The business, which makes modular bathroom pods for hotels, hospitals and student accommodation, saw revenue hit £75.7m in the year ending March 31, 2019 – up from £69.8m.

Directors at Walker Modular, which has facilities in Amsterdam Road and Marfleet Avenue in Hull, said the modular builder was “well placed to implement expansion into wider markets” in the years ahead.

Walker Modular was also recently named in the top 25 biggest companies in Hull and East Yorkshire in 2019.

Directors wrote in recently-filed accounts: “The company has had another profitable year of trading, with increased growth whilst achieving an operating profit of £9m.

“The directors are confident that the strategic business model in place will continue to provide substantial growth over the coming years.

“The company is also well placed to implement expansion into wider markets.”

Walker Modular was founded in 2006.

The company has built and supplied more than 150,000 bathroom pods to leading hotel chains including Travelodge, Hampton by Hilton and Premier Inn.

It also supplies hospitals, student accommodation developments, nursing homes and prisons.

Walker Modular operates four composite production lines and three steel frame lines, producing around 700 units every week, and has the capacity to fulfil 1,500 units a week.

Last year, pre-tax profits rose from £8.8m to £9.3m.

The company employs more than 400 people in Hull across its production sites, and is one of the biggest modular names in the city.

Looking ahead, directors said: “Walker Modular aims to continue to be a primary supplier to leading developers and blue chip companies throughout the UK, delivering high-quality products while continuing the recent year’s successes and increase in market share.

“The board believes that the company’s strategy together with its experienced management will be a solid foundation for successful business performance in the future.”

In recent months, Walker Modular has won new contracts to work with Travelodge on locations including Rochdale, Oxfordshire and Nottinghamshire.

The Hull business also secured a deal to supply almost 800 bathroom pods at a major new student accommodation development in Sheffield.

Elsewhere, Walker will also supply 136 new bathroom pods at a new riverside complex in London, and 574 pods will be fitted at Norton Street in Liverpool – a major student accommodation scheme.

Walker Modular was recently ranked 25 in Hull and East Yorkshire’s biggest businesses for 2019.
