Walker in stitches after discovering savage plaque on memorial bench

Memorial benches are usually a nod to a loved one who has passed away, placed in their cherished spot, it's a place those left behind can go to remember them.

Whether it be a beauty spot, local park, or in their favourite hidden gem, the benches typically bear the names of the people they are dedicated to.

They often have touching inscriptions that many don't pay close attention to but one walker was forced to do a double-take when looking at a plaque on a bench in Margate recently, reports the Mirror.

It reads: 'Dedicated to Hayden Kays. Forever missed by his friends and family - He's not dead yet. He's just become increasingly anti-social.'

The image of the dark-humoured bench was shared on Reddit with the caption: "Found this on a bench in Margate at the weekend".

Unsurprisingly, it's already racked up more than 100 comments as people added similar messages they had found.

One replied: "In the middle of Crystal Palace Park there's a fenced-off private fishing pond. On a bench right outside, there's one dedicated to a woman who 'took pleasure in annoying the fishermen by feeding the ducks'."

And a second wrote: "There was one in Brighton years ago that said something like 'Gary Smith made his first s***tily rolled spliff here, March 1995'."

Others were left chuckling at the message in 'memory' of Hayden, as one pointed out: "How ominous is that 'yet' though."

And someone else joked: "I need my name on a plaque like that. Dating back to before the pandemic."

People from the area even did some investigative work and appeared to figure out who it was referring to.

Many attributed the bench to artist Hayden Kays, explaining his work is "often political and pretty satirical".

One commented: "Hayden Kays is an artist and he is based in Margate. I think he likely paid for it himself," while another speculated: "I'm sure it’s not official. Hayden does things like this all the time."
