Walker dies on Snowdon after plunging 'considerable distance' from ridge

A walker has died after falling from a ridge in Snowdonia on Sunday.

Rescuers have confirmed the incident involved a walker who fell a 'considerable distance' from the Crib Goch ridge on Mount Snowdon in north Wales.

Four rescue crew and a medical team from Llanberis Mountain Rescue and Wales Air Ambulance were scrambled to the scene by helicopter.

However despite the best efforts from rescuers, the walker died from their injuries.

In a statement on Thursday, Llanberis Mountain Rescue said: "One of the incidents we attended on Sunday was after receiving several reports from North Wales Police that a walker had been reported as falling a considerable distance from the Crib Goch ridge.

"With assistance from the Wales Air Ambulance Charity helicopter Helimed 61, a group of four team members were lifted to support the onboard doctor and medics.

"Unfortunately, the walker was found not to have survived their injuries.

"The team would like to pass on our sincere condolences to the family and friends at what must be a very difficult time."

It is the third time in three weeks a walker has died on Snowdon, with fatalities on the Lechog Ridge and Pyg Track last month.

Crib Goch is considered one of the most challenging routes up the mountain and has resulted in several fatalities in recent years.

The notorious 'knife-edge' ridge with Llanberis Mountain Rescue saying they respond to numerous call outs each year from  people who have underestimated the route and should only be attempted by experienced mountain walkers.
