Walk The Line bombarded with same complaint as viewers are baffled by ITV talent show

Walk The Line is finally here, but after only one episode the show's already been hit with a number of complaints from baffled viewers.

Simon Cowell's new singing competition has been hyped for months, but as the show aired on Sunday night fans began to question his choices with the judging panel.

Many raised an eyebrow at comedian Dawn French judging the amateur singers.

Dawn, 64, critiqued the hopefuls with Craig David, Gary Barlow and Alesha Dixon, but not being a singer herself, viewers couldn't understand why she was there.

One said: "Why is Dawn French judging a singing contest? That's like asking Amanda Holden to judge talent."

Another wrote: "Love Dawn French, very funny lady, but why is she a judge on a singing competition #WalkTheLine.

While a third fumed: "Another singing contest on the telly. Judged by that musical genius, who has sold millions of albums worldwide……Dawn French. Give me f***ing strength."

Dawn was joined on the show by host Maya Jama, who hailed the star as an "icon" before pointing out: "You are the only one on the panel who's not technically a singer."

However the star of French and Saunders clapped back saying: "That's rude! Excuse me Maya, may I correct you a moment? I've had a very illustrious career in singing, roll VT!"

Maya jokingly replied: "I mean I take back everything I said. That proves your place on the panel perfectly."

The ITV show sees bands and solo acts perform in front of a star-studded panel of judges, hoping to walk away with a grand prize of £500,000.

Following the official axe of The X Factor earlier this year, some TV viewers were "delighted" to see a similar show back - with one tweeting "I already love #WalkTheLine."

Some viewers thought the show was a 'Poundland X Factor' (ITV)

But many were critical and dubbed the debut a "Poundland X Factor".

One fan wrote: "I didn’t know Poundland did versions of the X Factor #WalkTheLine."

While another mused: "If you hate music and want a show where the format makes no sense and the judges don’t do anything, then #WalkTheLine is probably what you’re looking for," before adding: "Still love you, Dawn and Alesha x"

Dawn may not be the most obvious choice for a singing talent show, but one thing fans were impressed with was her gorgeous new look.

The star has got rid of her sleek black bob and fringe and replaced it with an edgy grey quiff.

Viewers loved the transformation with one gushing: "The best thing about #WalkTheLine is Dawn French’s hair! I love it!"

Dawn has enjoyed an illustrious career as one of the country's best-known comedy queens.

Starring in programmes including Vicar of Dibley and Murder Most Horrid, she was married to actor Lenny Henry and the couple share a daughter, Billie, 30.

Walk The Line is on ITV tonight at 8pm.
