Walk-in jab centre heading to Birkenhead and Wallasey

Covid-19 jabs will be available without the need to pre-book at several places in Birkenhead and Wallasey over the next few weeks.

The vaccination team from Birkenhead Medical Building will be operating at a number of sites in addition to its base at 31 Laird Street, Birkenhead, which is open from Monday-Saturday between 9am and 5pm, with late opening until 6.30pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

At the temporary sites, second dose jabs, as well as first dose jabs, will be offered as long as it has been at least eight weeks since the first injection.

Anyone over the age of 16 can walk in and have their vaccination.

Based on national guidance, both Pfizer and Oxford Astra Zeneca vaccines will be available.

Wirral’s Covid-19 cases are currently at a relatively high level, with 1,028 cases in the seven days up to September 1, at a rate of 317 per 100,000.

Parts of Birkenhead and Wallasey form the worst-hit areas in the borough, with Liscard ward, and Birkenhead and Tranmere ward, having the highest and third highest case numbers respectively.

Dr Abhi Mantgani, lead for the service, said: “We have given over 90,000 shots to date and we are excited to work in partnership with Wirral CCG (Clinical Commissioning Group) and the council team to bring this service closer to people.

“It is very important that young people have their vaccination and return to normality and their education.

“The Covid numbers are increasing and young [people are] badly affected, so I urge people to come and have their vaccine to protect themselves, their family and friends.”

Where you can get your jab:

  • Wednesday, September 8 - Turner Street Car Park, Tranmere 9.30am-6pm
  • Monday, September 13 - Heart of Egremont, Wallasey 9am-2pm
  • Friday, September 17 - Seacombe Children’s Centre, Wallasey 9am-2pm
