Walk-in coronavirus vaccine clinics running in Bristol region

Booking-free coronavirus clinics are running in the Bristol region as the vaccine roll-out accelerates.

Winter Gardens in Weston-super-Mare is operating a walk-in vaccination centre this evening (Thursday, June 24), which is open to anyone aged 18+ who is yet to receive their first dose.

It is also open to anyone who is waiting on their second dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine, as long as their first dose was more than eight weeks ago (before April 29).

The clinic will run from 5pm until 9pm, and will offer the Pfizer vaccine to those arriving for their first dose.

Meanwhile Bristol's flagship vaccination centre at Ashton Gate Stadium is also offering some slots with no need to book.

Today and tomorrow (Friday, June 25) it is hosting a AstraZeneca walk-in clinic between the hours of 8am and 7pm.

Over-40s yet to have their first dose can turn up without booking to get their initial jab.

It is also open to anyone waiting on their second dose of AstraZeneca, if their first dose was more than eight weeks ago.

Last week the NHS in Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire (BNSSG) announced that it had reached the 'one million vaccines' milestone, more than six months since the programme began.

As of last Thursday (June 17), 1,019,712 vaccinations have been administered across BNSSG, meaning 76 per cent of the adult population has received at least their first jab.

'Light at the end of the tunnel'

Tim Whittlestone, clinical lead for the area’s Covid-19 vaccination programme, said: "Reaching a million vaccinations is a huge achievement for everyone involved in our vaccination programme, and a moment to reflect upon what has been accomplished.

"However, we know that many people still need to receive their Covid-19 vaccine in order to get the best protection against the virus."

He said rising cases of the Delta variant means it is even more important for people to get both of their vaccines.

He added: "We know the last 15 months have been really difficult for everyone, but vaccinations really are the light at the end of the tunnel.

"If you’re eligible and haven’t yet had your vaccination, please book an appointment as soon as you can."
