Wales' youngest ever player Tom Prydie released by Scarlets at 29 in surprise announcement

Tom Prydie — hailed as Welsh rugby’s boy wonder when he became the youngest-ever player to feature for Wales — is looking for a new team after leaving the Scarlets.

He created history when he made his Test debut in 2010 at the age of 18 years and 25 days.

No-one had previously played for Wales at such a tender age.

He now exits the Scarlets after four seasons and 40 games.

There were 10 tries for the west Walians, including one in the memorable European Champions Cup pool win over Toulouse at Parc y Scarlets in 2018. His regional form earned him an international recall for Wales’ summer tour that year.

Quick and a useful goalkicker who slotted the decisive penalty in driving rain when Wales U20s beat New Zealand U20s at the Junior World Championship in 2012, the full-back or wing has been a popular member of the Scarlets squad and is viewed as a team man.

The 29-year-old won his seven Wales caps between 2010 and 2018.

“Tom has been a valued member of our squad for the past four seasons and played a big part in our European journey in 2018,” said general manager of rugby Jon Daniels.

“We would like to thank him for everything he has done for the Scarlets and wish him well with what comes next.”

Scarlets can also confirm that second row Lloyd Ashley has returned to the Ospreys after his short loan spell.

He played three United Rugby Championship matches during the opening block of fixtures, coming off the bench in the bonus-point win over Benetton last time out.
