Wales World Cup star targeted by French giants as he heads for end of contract

Wales World Cup man Wyn Jones is attracting attention from France as he heads towards the end of his contract with the Scarlets.

The 28-year-old prop signed a deal to stay in Llanelli in 2017, days after making his home international debut.

He has since developed into a high-class loosehead who is arguably Wales’ first choice in the position.

The French clubs who are said to be interested in the 30-cap west Walian include Stade Francais and Montpellier.

Jones becomes a free agent with the Scarlets next summer and is set to have a decision to make.

The Llandovery RFC product had a strong World Cup which saw him feature in all seven games Wales played, starting in five of them as Warren Gatland’s team reached the semi-finals, beating France along the way.

He also figured in five of the recent autumn Tests.

The barrier, of course, to a move away would be the rule that stops exiled players from playing for Wales if they are short of 60 caps.

Scarlets have another Test loose-head on their books in Rob Evans, but strength in depth is key for sides with designs on silverware and the west Walians have been able to accommodate both Jones and Evans.

The likelihood is they would want to keep the Carmarthen product whose best days could still be in front of him.
