Wales Women's Six Nations game against Scotland off after player is diagnosed with coronavirus and teammates are self-isloated

Wales Women's final Six Nations match with Scotland at the Arms Park next Sunday has been postponed due to the coronavirus crisis.

Seven Scottish players and members of coaching staff are currently in self-isolation after one player was diagnosed and is currently being teated for the virus.

The Scotland women’s team returned from northern Italy on Sunday, February 23, as their Italy v Scotland Six Nations match was postponed due to the virus outbreak.

The Cardiff clash could well have been a wooden spoon decider with Wales having lost all four of their matches to date, including a 66-7 loss to England at the Twickenham Stoop last Saturday.

Only Wales and England have played all their matches this season to date in the coronavirus-ravaged tournament with winless Scotland and Italy managing just half their games.

Scotland's match with France at Glasgow's Scotstoun Stadium last Saturday was postponed after a home player contracted the illness.

Seven more people, across management and players, are now self-isolating on medical advice.

Their last game, in Italy, was called off over coronavirus fears.

Dr James Robson, Scottish Rugby's chief medical officer, said: "We are pleased that our player is doing well and that all the correct medical procedures have been followed and continue to be followed.

"We are working with the Scottish government in continuing to observe and follow NHS advice."

While announcing Ireland men's potential title-decider with France was the latest match to bite the dust next Saturday, Six Nations chiefs also announced the Wales-Scotland women's match has also been called off.

"The fixture between Wales Women and Scotland Women is also postponed after a Scottish player tested positive for Covid-19 and a further seven members of the Scotland camp (players and management) are self-isolating," they said in a statement.

"Six Nations and its constituent Unions and federations will work closely to identify dates on which all postponed matches will take place.

"No immediate announcement will be made on rescheduling as we will need to discuss with all relevant stakeholders and assess the evolution of the situation."
