Wales Women claim 2-0 win over Estonia with Megan Wynne and Nadia Lawrence goals

Two second-half goals gave Wales Women a well-deserved victory in their friendly international in Wrexham on Friday night.

Strikes from Megan Wynne and substitute Nadia Lawrence gave Jayne Ludlow’s side a perfect warm-up for their Euro 2021 qualifiers with Faroe Islands and Norway next month.

In truth, it was a one-sided encounter in Wales’ first game at the Racecourse since 2012 as the home side were forced to show plenty of patience to break down a resolute Estonia defence.

Kayleigh Green had the best of Wales’ chances before the break, with visiting goalkeeper Karina Kork producing a fine save to deny the Brighton striker.

Captain Sophie Ingle was central to the Welsh efforts and, she too, was denied by Kork before producing the moment of magic after the interval that broke the deadlock.

Halfway through the second-half, following a period of Welsh pressure, Ingle produced a curling, classy cross from the left met superbly by Ffion Morgan.

Her header was saved by Kork, but Wynne was quickest to react to prod the ball home.

Buoyed by taking the lead, Wales continued to attack and in the 76th minute they produced a move of quality to double their advantage.
After Helen Ward has gone close with a header, Wales went back on the attack.

A throw-in from Ingle was held up by Morgan for Angharad James to burst into the area. She took the ball to the byline and crossed for Lawrence to finish with the minimum of fuss.

From then, it was a matter of seeing the game out, which Wales did, to give Ludlow and her team the perfect fillip for the next two vital games
