Wales winger linked with move to Welsh region from English Premiership giants

Leicester Tigers star Jonah Holmes is the latest English-based Welsh international linked with a move to regional rugby to continue his international career.

Holmes was a shock call-up to Wales' 2018 autumn international squad by Warren Gatland and the 27-year-old strong-running back has won three caps since.

His last international came against Ireland in a World Cup warm-up game.

The winger, who can also play full-back, made the move to Welford Road in 2017 after an impressive spell with Yorkshire Carnegie.

He scored 10 tries in his first 11 games for the Tigers and agreed a contract extension with the English giants back in October 2018, with head coach Geordan Murphy claiming: "We are very lucky to have secured his services. We know he is a very talented player. We were really keen to lock him down and thankfully we did."

With Holmes unable to continue his international career under the WRU 60-cap rule should he extend his Tigers' career further, The Rugby Paper are reporting the Dragons are about to launch a cross-border raid to secure his services.

Holmes' arrival at Rodney Parade would significantly bolster the back division resources boss Dean Ryan would have at his disposal.

He is a proven try-scoring wing, who can also double up as a sturdy figure at 15.

It would also deliver a significant blow to the Tigers, with the club already resigned to losing the services of England star Jonny May next season as he heads to Premiership rivals Gloucester.
