Wales vs Switzerland prediction: Why Xherdan Shaqiri is the Swiss' main threat at Euro 2020

Xherdan Shaqiri will be looking forward to another campaign with Switzerland and are tipped to go through the group stages as they prepare to face Wales in the opener.

The Swiss are the favourites for their opener in Baku at 23/20 with Grosvenor Sport while Wales are 3/1 and a draw is 41/20.

They are in decent form too after seeing off USA 2-1 and thrashing Liechtenstein 7-0 in their friendlies before they travelled to Azerbaijan.

Wales, meanwhile, have not had the best of preparations ahead of Euro 2020 after they were thumped 3-0 by outright favourites France and failed to find the net against Albania.

Both nations have met seven times, with Wales winning twice - including their last meeting back in 2011 where Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey found the net.

However, Switzerland have won the remaining five meetings and given their form it could be six come this afternoon.

Tips

  • Xherdan Shaqiri to score anytime - 4/1
  • Both teams to score - 5/4

Despite playing as a midfielder or winger for Liverpool and scores on average once every five games, it is very different on international duty.

For Switzerland he has scored 23 goals in 90 caps - close to an average of one in three matches.

He has scored in every international tournament too since the 2014 World Cup - including a hat-trick in Brazil against Honduras.

He is 4/1 to score anytime and given his return in international tournaments, it is worth considering.
