Wales travel rules mean people from Merseyside are allowed back into the country

People from Merseyside will be able to travel to Wales again after the new Tier system came into place this week.

Wales had previously banned Liverpool residents from entering the country, unless for essential purposes.

But the Welsh Government's cabinet met yesterday to decide the travel restrictions as England's lockdown came to an end.

The government published new coronavirus restrictions and it's good news for people from Merseyside hoping to visit Wales - reports North Wales Live.

Under the rules, coming into force from Friday at 6pm people, will be able to travel between Wales and Tier 1 and Tier 2 areas of England.

That means visitors from the Tier 1 and 2 areas of England - including Merseyside and Cheshire - can now take holidays in Wales.

But the regulations bar travel into Tier 3 zones like Manchester - unless it is for work or another essential purpose.

When it comes to Scotland people cannot travel from Wales to Level 3 or Level 4 areas of the country - and visitors from those areas cannot come here.

The whole of Northern Ireland is also restricted as they are currently in a new lockdown.

A formal announcement and additional details are expected later today.

Hotels have already been closing in Wales due to a lack of clarity on the issue as well as the new rules over hospitality.
