Wales team photo pranks - the story behind why they do it

Wales indulged in some familiar behaviour ahead of their Euro 2020 opener against Switzerland.

Gareth Bale captained the side to a 1-1 draw in Baku, Azerbaijan, with Kieffer Moore's header cancelling out Breel Embolo's opener.

Before the game Wales posed for the traditional team photo, with fans noticing a lop-sided line-up.

It wasn't in error, though, it is a prank Wales players have been enjoying for quite some time.

There have been some hilarious efforts in recent years, including this one before a game against Georgia back in 2016:

Welsh international Joe Ledley once said about the photos: “We were just not very good at them. At first we didn’t look into it but then gradually a few photos got together and it was awful, so we just thought we may as well keep it the same.

“It’s been lucky for us too. It’s not really superstitious but I don’t think we will have a proper photo.”

Jonny Williams said back in 2016: “I’ve been involved in a couple but they were by accident, to be fair.

"I just don’t think we’re very good at them and now we’re just doing it for banter I think, but I don’t know how much further we can go....unless we leave Wayne Hennessey on his own at the back!”
