Wales star Rhys Carre set to discover fate over early red card in Ospreys clash as Wayne Pivac names Six Nations squad

Wales and Saracens star Rhys Carre is set to learn his fate on Wednesday when a disciplinary hearing is held over the 21-year-old's red card, issued just minutes into the Ospreys clash at the weekend.

Referee Alexandre Ruiz gave Carre, who made a name for himself at the 2019 Rugby World Cup, his marching orders after what was adjudged to be a dangerous tackle on Ospreys full-back Dan Evans in the fourth minute of the European Champions Cup clash.

The former Cardiff Blue now faces an independent disciplinary hearing, the committee of which is made up of chair Philippe Cavalieros (France), Donal Courtney (Ireland) and Yannick Jauzion (France), on Wednesday, January 15, in London - the same day Wales boss Wayne Pivac names his Six Nations squad.

The disciplinary result could have an impact on any possible involvement in the early rounds of the Six Nations, with Wales' first game against Italy taking place less than three weeks away on February 1.

The offence Carre was sent off for carries entry points of two weeks (low end), six weeks (mid-range) and 10 to 52 weeks (top end).

The incident itself on Saturday sparked a furious debate over the ruling.

As Evans ran the ball back for the Ospreys, he was initially tackled by Saracens flanker Nick Isiekwe before Carre added his bulk to the collision.

There are some who feel that Isiekwe's initial contact with Evans should be seen as a mitigating factor.

French referee Ruiz adjudged that Carre had made contact with Evans' head or neck area, while that was disputed by some viewers, with some feeling first contact was with the shoulder.

However, Carre did not wrap his arm in the collision and that is deemed to be dangerous.
