Wales star explains to fans why he's leaving Welsh region for closest rivals

Wales star Cory Hill has opened up on his decision to leave the Dragons this summer.

The Guinness PRO14 season was put on hold last month as a result of the coronavirus outbreak.

And with Six Nations fixtures also being postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Hill is one of many stars eagerly awaiting a return to the game.

Though the move is not confirmed, WalesOnline understands that Hill will rejoin his former region, the Cardiff Blues ready for next season.

On Friday, the Dragons released a statement voicing concerns around the circumstances of the 28-year-old's transfer.

Part of their statement read: "Dragons have asked the relevant bodies to look into the circumstances around the move."

And the 25-cap Wales forward has opened up on his move in a post on Instagram.

He said: "Some personal news from me…

"After seven enjoyable years at the Dragons I have decided on a new challenge and opportunity.

"I’m hugely excited for what lies ahead next season.

"I would like to say thank you to all the Dragons faithful for their support over the last seven years. I’m very proud of my time with the Dragons and it was an honour to captain the region.

"With the current season’s future undecided I do not know whether I will be wearing a Dragons shirt again or not, but my time at Rodney Parade has been special to me – so thank you to everyone who’s been part of my journey.

"More to announce soon but for now, remember to stay safe everyone! Cory."

The versatile lock - who can also play at blindside flanker - left Cardiff Blues in 2013, joining the Dragons in the same year following a brief stint with English side Moseley.

Hill made his Wales debut against Australia in 2016, with his most recent cap for his country coming against Italy in February.
