Wales star Aaron Shingler facing at least three months out after fresh injury blow

Welsh international Aaron Shingler faces at least three months out of action after suffering a complication having been taken ill during lockdown.

It’s the latest setback for the 27-cap Scarlets forward who has had lengthy lay-offs in the past with concussion and serious knee damage.

Shingler suffered the knee injury during the 2018 Guinness PRO14 final defeat to Leinster, keeping him out of action for over a year.

But he battled his way back to be part of Wales’ World Cup squad and played six matches out in Japan last year, covering both lock and back row.

There was a further appearance against England in the Six Nations, but now the versatile 33-year-old has been struck down again.

A Scarlets spokesperson said: “Aaron has suffered an inflammatory condition secondary to an illness during lockdown.

“This has required clinical management as an inpatient under the care of a rheumatologist.

“Now on a slow road to recovery, Aaron’s clinical picture is improving, but will remain unavailable for rugby activities for at least the next 12 weeks.”
