Wales set to lose out to old rivals England in choice of hotel for World Cup quarter-final week

Wales are set to miss out to arch-rivals England on their preferred hotel choice for Rugby World Cup quarter-final week.

The two teams have 100 per cent record and look set to finish top of their respective groups.

That would mean they avoid each other in the last eight, but it has caused an issue off the field instead.

Wales and England would each head to the city of Oita for the quarter-finals, a 90-minute flight away from Tokyo.

Likely Pool C winners England are set to meet Australia on Saturday October 19, with Warren Gatland's side poised for a showdown with France the following day.

Pool winners get first call on which hotels and facilities they use during the knockout stages and it is understood that Wales and England were each keen to pick the same palatial Suginoi Hotel base. Nestled into the mountains and overlooking Beppu Bay, it is one of the best the area has to offer.

However, if there is a conflict, which there is in this case, then it is decided by a draw that was done before the tournament started.

Team managers were asked to pick numbers out of a hat to determine who has primacy over accommodation.

Unfortunately for Wales, it is thought that England drew a better ranking, with Gatland’s men having to find an alternative base.

However, Wales have one of the best, most experienced team managers around in Alan Phillips, the 18-times capped former hooker, and he will have other plans to fall back upon.

We are told it is not something that is causing the squad any sleepless nights.

Wales have enjoyed victories over Georgia and Australia and play Fiji and Uruguay in the next seven days as they seek to cement their place at the top of Pool D.

Eddie Jones’ England have already secured a spot in the knockout stages after thumping victories over Tonga, USA and Argentina and can guarantee Pool C top spot by beating France.
