Wales rugby star Cory Hill's World Cup hopes in the balance as fractured leg revealed

Cory Hill’s Rugby World Cup hopes are hanging in the balance less than 24 hours before Warren Gatland names his final squad for the tournament.

The Wales lock, who is a key leader in the side having captained the team on occasions, hasn’t played since the victory over England in the Six Nations earlier this year.

He suffered a leg injury in the act of scoring in the second half of that match and problems have persisted.

Hill is now the only player in Wales’ squad not to see action in the warm-up matches and Gatland revealed the management have a decision to make.

Wales V Ireland post-match reaction

“Our big discussion tonight is with Cory Hill.

“He’s got a fracture in his leg. We scanned yesterday and he has a very small fracture which will probably keep him out until game two or three.

“It’ll be a big discussion point as to whether we take him or not.”

Gatland then allayed fears over Ross Moriarty, who withdrew from Saturday’s game against Ireland with a hip problem.

Wales announce their official 31-man Rugby World Cup squad on Sunday, September 1, at 2pm.
