Wales players bow in show of respect to Japanese supporters

Victorious Wales did nothing to harm their reputation in Japan by making sure to take a bow to the fans in the City of Toyota stadium.

The Wales squad lined up and bowed in unison after beating Georgia 43-14 in a gesture which was well received by over 30,000 fans in Toyota, many of which were locals.

Wales have been keen to ingratiate themselves to the Japanese since arriving in the country and have built a local following as a result.

Over 15,000 people watched them train in Kitakyushu last week and the city has been painted red as locals go crazy for their new heroes.

Wales are not the first to bow to fans after a game though.

New Zealand players did the same after they beat South Africa 23-13 in their opening game.

Captain Kieran Read said it was an important gesture to make.

“It’s really important for us to connect as much as we can with the Japanese people, we know that they love us as All Blacks but we need to show a bit of love back to them,” Read told a news conference.

“The support’s been fantastic so far, we saw that tonight, there was plenty of fans with the black jerseys, which is fantastic. We want to enjoy this tournament, get out and see as many people as we can and, hopefully, get some new fans.”
