Wales launches life sciences hub to complement £100m investment fund

The Welsh government is launching a life sciences hub at Cardiff bay to complement a £100m investment fund which has already invested in two Aim-listed businesses.

The hub, opened by Welsh minister Edwina Hart alongside its chairman professor Chris McGuigan, entrepreneur Sir Chris Evans and Dragons' Den star Theo Paphitis, is designed to bring together academic, business, clinical, professional services and funding organisations.

The investment fund, half of which came from the Welsh government and the rest to be raised by Evans' Arthurian Life Sciences, has already made four investments totalling £20m.

These included participating in recent fundraisings by cell therapy specialist ReNeuron, steady at 3.47p, and respiratory disease drug developer Verona Pharma, down 0.05p at 1.125p.
