Wales issue Six Nations injury update as Dan Lydiate released from squad and new call-ups to be confirmed

Dan Lydiate has been ruled out of the remainder of the Six Nations, while Tomos Williams, Johnny Williams and Hallam Amos are all out of Saturday’s game against Scotland against Murrayfield.

It’s been confirmed that Ospreys flanker Lydiate suffered an anterior cruciate ligament knee injury on his comeback appearance against Ireland on Sunday.

That will mean a lengthy lay-off and he has been released from the squad.

Scrum-half Tomos Williams suffered hamstring damage in the 21-16 victory over Ireland, while centre Johnny Williams and wing Amos took knocks to the head.

All three will miss the trip to Edinburgh.

There has been no announcement on player call ups so far, with the results of COVID-19 testing being waited on.

The WRU statement reads: “Dan Lydiate has been released from the Guinness Six Nations squad due to an anterior cruciate ligament injury sustained in the match against Ireland at Principality Stadium.

“He will undergo a number of assessments and consultations in the coming days to establish the best course of management.

“Tomos Williams suffered a hamstring injury in the game against Ireland and is currently being assessed. He is ruled out of the fixture against Scotland on Saturday.

“Johnny Williams and Hallam Amos will both miss the fixture against Scotland on Saturday due to head injury.

“Player call ups will be made and announced in due course following COVID-19 testing and results.”
