Wales international Thomas Young hurt in challenge which 'could have resulted in two red cards'

Wales international Thomas Young left the fray early in controversial circumstances as Wasps defied the odds to pull off a remarkable win over Bath.

The three-cap player was hurt during a clear-out after a couple of minutes in the Gallagher Premiership clash at The Rec on Sunday.

The incident fuelled a debate over the legitimacy of the challenge on Dai Young's son.

There were some online who felt he had been the victim of two shoulders to the head and that red cards could have been shown.

The Rugby and the Law Twitter account posted: "Wasps' Thomas Young off for a HIA having received two shoulders to the head while being cleared out at a ruck.

"Ref and TMO didn't pick up on it but I wonder whether it might attract the attention of the citing commissioner.

"Looked like two red cards to me."

But others didn’t see it that way.

Whatever, Young saw his involvement in a hugely entertaining game curtailed after the flanker failed a head injury assessment.

Despite losing three other players to injury and having four different people throw into the line-out, Wasps went on to claim the spoils at 27-23.

Pointing the way was the Gallagher Premiership's turnover king Jack Willis, who finished with five steals to go with the 19 tackles he put in.

In case there's any doubt, that's some shift.

It came against a home back row which included Taulupe Faletau and Sam Underhill, no slouches themselves at the breakdown.

There were plenty around Willis who added support as the visitors rallied from 13-0 down.

Rhys Priestland had swung the initiative Bath's way with a hit on Jimmy Gopperth which allowed the hosts to surge upfield for a Jack Walker try which put them 23-20 ahead.

But Wasps' never-say-die spirit came to the fore with six minutes to play, when they moved upfield to claim a decisive penalty try.
