Wales international Paul James gets his testimonial jersey back after public appeal

Wales international Paul James has been successful in his public appeal for the safe return of the testimonial jerseys stolen from the Neath RFC changing rooms on the weekend.

The 66-times-capped prop has been celebrating his testimonial this season and the star-studded match on the weekend between a Paul James XV and a Classic Lions XV was the centrepiece.

The game featured the likes of Shane Williams, Lee Byrne, Jonathan Thomas, Dafydd James and Dafydd Jones.

Rowland Phillips was back at The Gnoll, with Chris Wyatt, Jason Forster and Allan Bateman also lacing up their boots once again.

But the theft of two jerseys, polo shirts, socks and shorts belonging to James and former Neath skipper Paul Jones from The Gnoll changing rooms afterwards left a sour taste after what was a glorious afternoon of rugby.

But there was a happy ending on Tuesday night when the ex-Ospreys loosehead took to social media to update his followers and announce that the taken items had been returned via special delivery through the post to The Gnoll ground.

“To the person who had a brain fart on the weekend and took our kit, you done the right thing returning it,” he wrote, drawing a line under the theft.

Jones had been packing down for the Paul James XV having inked his name into Neath's history books when leading the club to the 2004 Welsh Cup, after beating Caerphilly 36-13 in the final.

The testimonial jerseys were specially made for the match, and with just two bearing No.1, would be easily identified if sold on or worn out in public.

Burly front-rower Jones also went on to social media to thank his followers for spreading the words about the theft.

He said: "Result.

"Thanks to everyone who helped us get the kit back to their rightful owners.

"And to the person who had the sense to do the right thing in the end.

"Social media is very useful way of working together in situations like this.

"Thank you all. Diolch yn fawr iawn."
